RED BULL

For this three part digital short series for Red Bull’s massive social media footprint, we were asked to develop episodes that brought forward India’s perennial obsession with cricket by focusing on the rising stars of their Campus Cricket event.  The annual event pits college teams against one another for the coveted prize, but also as a sort of discovery ground for scouts from the big leagues. I wrote and directed these films.

 

FACEBOOK / META

This digital film explored how Facebook’s microcosm of apps can foster the growth of small to medium business enterprises.  We focused on Kashmir in India to illustrate that even in areas of conflict, accessible online tools can help entrepreneurs drive business forward. I directed this film.

 

RAW MANGO

Raw Mango has redefined the Indian clothing aesthetic. Their focus has always been on bringing forward traditional textiles, promoting the rich diversity of culture in India and the colour and beauty it exists in. As part of my production studio, we created viral social media campaigns that catapulted Raw Mango’s influence on Indian fashion to the next stage. In each of these campaigns we put women at the forefront, deploying them as creatures from either historical folk tales or alien lands, navigating either the geographical beauty of the country, or the rich architectural history. In each of these spaces, and in their actions, we explored surrealist narratives by allowing music and dance to capture the imagination of the viewer. I acted, co-directed and shot these campaigns as part of Miya Biwi.

 

FOREST ESSENTIALS

Forest Essentials is a luxury Ayurvedic beauty brand. For the launch of their biggest manufacturing facility, we developed a campaign that spanned nine videos which aimed to present how their products are made. By incorporating long, cinematic takes indulging in color, richness, texture, and sensual patina, we used ingredients like saffron, milk, ghee, silver, rose, sandalwood and gold - all elements of Ayurveda - to create a multi-sensory experience for the viewer. I directed these films as part of Miya Biwi.

 

UNIQLO

For Uniqlo’s launch in India in 2019, we developed a digital video for them in collaboration with Elle Magazine in order to expand their social media presence. We asked several visionary creative mavericks across a variety of industries to explain how they felt in their clothes using one word, a testament to both the economy of the brand, and the fast-paced nature that the film required. I directed this video for Miya Biwi.

 

PETER CAT RECORDING CO.

Over the past decade, India’s premiere indie band has gone from a cherished secret in their home town of New Delhi to the de facto benchmark of what a band that refuses to compromise on their craft can mean in India.  We directed, shot, and edited the music video for “We’re Getting Married”, a sort of paean to the leap of faith that marriage presents in the face of the uncertainty that life presents.

Currently sitting at just under half a million views, the video unfolds in one long take. It casts myself, Suryakant Sawhney (the lead vocalist of the band) and our friend Gerd over the course of a “morning” in a Berlin flat where time moves in non linear ways.

 

DIASPORA

Diaspora was founded in Mumbai in 2017 as a reaction to the inequitable dynamics and complex value chains that characterized the sale of spices in India. Our campaign for them built narrative driven stories around their farm partners across Kashmir, Kerala, and the northeast of India, exploring their unique take on farming practices - traditional, modern, and all hybrid points in between - as underwritten by their unique worldviews. I produced, shot, and directed these films for Miya Biwi.

WEST ELM

West Elm collaborated with award winning architect and interior space designer, Ashiesh Shah, for a new collection. Tailored for their over four million social media followers, we developed a campaign that explored the underlying philosophy of ‘Wabi-Sabi’ that inspired the design structure of the collection. We juxtaposed the minimal geometric shapes found on the products with the contours and colours of their manufacturing facility, providing a holistic overview of the underlying ethos of the company and their employees. I was the Director / Art Director for this video.
